RT @MindyKaling
While doing DVD commentary, it becomes extremely difficult for me [not] to blurt out crazy things like “The Holocaust never happened!”
That was gonna just be an ordinary retweet (i can’t believe i just wrote that sentence) but with the little ’RT’ note and the helpful “[not]” it became too long for twitter itself. (Though twittering is in many ways almost impossibly lame, it is at least a disciplined medium, like a sonnet, a sitcom, or a football game.) Anyway, the vast, unstructured expanse of the tumblr invited me to learn more things about Mindy Kaling, so that I could repeat some of them to you.
What you may already know about Ms. Kaling is that she plays Kelly Kapoor on The Office and writes for the show as well. In fact, she wrote maybe my favorite episode ever, “The Injury” (the one where Michael grilled his foot and Dwight got a concussion).
What you probably didn’t know, unless you spend your dawns reading IMDb biography pages, is that Mindy was born Vera Mindy Chokalingam and that her middle name is “taken from the TV show Mork and Mindy. Her mother was pregnant with her in Nigeria and that was the only American show they got there. When she met Robin Williams and told him the story he didn’t believe her.”
